Steam is the company that changed the world. Steam is why the Jotun are a formidable empire again, Steam is the reason why the Old Country turned it’s sites to colonization, Steam is the reason magic across the world is falling out of disuse. Truly, in a time of greatness, nothing has done more to affect the world than Steam and it’s leader, Tycho Newerth. The secret to the corporation’s success lies in many areas, some less savory than others. On the whole, Steam rose to power in as clean a way possible for a powerbase located in the Old Country, though the company is in no way a stranger to the dirty political dealings and outright violent struggle that stains the nation. In many ways, Steam’s secret to success was in beating the Knights of Law at their own game. Where the Knights served as mercenaries to the highest bidder, they were still controlled by their own agenda. Steam provided weapons and other tools of war to the mercenaries, with no agenda aside from pure profit. It’s ride-along success also manifests in the massive use of the steam engine in vehicles, whether they be land, sea, or sky, and the cutbacks that Steam receives from all the major trading corporations. As long as Steam holds its monopoly on the new technology, and continues to innovate, its unlikely that their success will fade.
